Pictures Sounds Numbers Words…an online conference

Those great folk from Maine ran an online conference last week, Pictures, Sounds, Numbers, Words. All sessions have been recorded and are freely available here: http://mltiolc.wordpress.com/workshop-schedule/.

Ex-Governor Angus King presented the keynote on the first day, and during his presentation he talks about many of the themes of the flat digital World and the implications for education. One of the points he focusses on is the need for professional development when supporting educators, which is something we wholeheartedly agree with at Etech.

Last year I had the chance to briefly meet with Governor King and I was interested to learn that the total cost of the initial MLTI initiative was around 0.5% of the total Maine education budget. Interesting thought for those who might believe that 1-1 programmes are prohibitively expensive.

Following on from Karen’s post regarding Prezi, Dr. Ruben Puentedura presents a workshop on some of the theory behind Prezi, and also, how to get started with it.

An alternative presentation tool

Andy Bush of Sheffield recently showed me this new non-linear presentation tool which can be downloaded from www.prezi.com. There is a free version and some case studies for you to see how it works. What is good about this software is that the presentations are kept online for you to access anywhere or share the URL for others to view.

Here is an example which Andy used at a Headteacher’s conference in Sheffield
