An “Older Dog” Speaks

Tips for Attending an Education Conference like NECC

I have attended many major conferences as both an educator and as a technology company representative over the years, and participated by doing workshops, presentations, panel discussions, demonstrations and being an energized “booth bunny” and corporate spy. It is unusual to engage with attendees who seem well prepared for these events. For newbies, the major conferences can be overwhelming. NECC is an example of a place where an attendee can get desperately lost in the noise.  You can return home disappointed and having missed some extraordinary opportunities to engage peers, meet innovators and pioneers, learn from experienced education solution providers. There is often an opportunity to witness new trends that may make all the difference in transforming the education environments in your blended learning spaces. (more…)

Studywiz in Washington DC!

Last week, I had the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of educators at Howard University’s Middle School of Mathematics and Science. The Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science (MS)² is a public charter school committed to academic excellence, with a specific focus on mathematics and science. It is located at 405 Howard Place, NW, on the main campus of Howard University in the center of Washington DC. They center much of their daily curriculum around the use of technology in and out of the regular classroom.

At (MS)², many teachers are finding out many new and interesting uses for Studywiz. One interesting way that teachers are taking advantage of Studywiz is applying web courses into their Multi-Content Activities. They have been using Exam View Pro with their regular classes but needed a more efficient way to distribute those courses to their students. While publishing those courses into their eLockers, they can then embed those links into their Multi-Content Activities to be displayed to the students at a certain time.

(MS)² has been very excited about many of the new and exciting changes with our new 9.4 deployment and is looking forward to taking advantage of the new tools they will have to teach with.
