TeachMeet and TeachMeet Takeover

TMBETT2010.png

If you don’t already know, there are a couple of TeachMeet events attached to BETT 2010.

On Friday night the main TeachMeet session will take place in the APEX Room at London Olympia. You can sign up for attendance or, if you’re willing, offer to present. All the details are available here on the TeachMeet wiki.

The other event taking place this year is TeachMeet Takeover. This involves BETT vendors giving up some time on their stand for educators to present and share ideas.

Takeover sessions will be happening throughout all four days of BETT and the timetable of sessions is available here. There are a couple of slots left if you wish to give a presentation.

Ian Addison from Hampshire, and regular contributor to this blog, will be presenting at the Roar Educate stand (K56). His presentation is sure to be interesting and informative so if you’re attending BETT then please come along to K56 at 12pm on Thursday 14th.

News from the HECC Indiana State Conference

News from the HECC Indiana State Conference

Last week, the HECC Indiana State Computing Conference was held in Indianapolis in the historic Union Central Conference Center. What was unique about this conference for Studywiz was the use of our product as the official mobile conference site. Every attendee at the conference (950 people!) was given an iPod Touch and a login to the conference site.

Many people accessed the site to find presenter’s PowerPoint presentations, PDF handouts and movies. What became a resourceful activity was posting the winners of the booth prizes at the end of the conference.

The HECC board members posted an evaluation into Studywiz to take advantage of the polling activity. They were able to collect important information from the attendees while they were moving about the conference.

Even with the conference over with, many people are still finding use for going back to the site and reviewing the galleries, discussions and multi-content activities.

An “Older Dog” Speaks

Tips for Attending an Education Conference like NECC

I have attended many major conferences as both an educator and as a technology company representative over the years, and participated by doing workshops, presentations, panel discussions, demonstrations and being an energized “booth bunny” and corporate spy. It is unusual to engage with attendees who seem well prepared for these events. For newbies, the major conferences can be overwhelming. NECC is an example of a place where an attendee can get desperately lost in the noise.  You can return home disappointed and having missed some extraordinary opportunities to engage peers, meet innovators and pioneers, learn from experienced education solution providers. There is often an opportunity to witness new trends that may make all the difference in transforming the education environments in your blended learning spaces. (more…)
